Dr. Amanda Komisarow grew up outside of Atlanta, Georgia. She received her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Dr. Komisarow then earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina. After graduating she completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at the Veteran's Affairs hospital in Birmingham, Alabama where she received advanced training in endodontics, oral surgery, and implantology. Dr. Komisarow is also a member of the Charleston division of the Seattle Study Club where she continues to advance her dental education and training.
In her free time Dr. Komisarow loves to take her dogs, Maverick and Diego, around town or to the beach. She also enjoys running, cycling, and staying active.
Dr. Julie A. Obenchain, DDS is honored to provide the very best mercury-free and eco-friendly cosmetic and family dental services to the community of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Prior to Pleasant Smiles, Dr. Julie spent 11 years with the award-winning practice, Glenns Bay Dental Associates in Surfside Beach, SC.
A native of Piqua, OH, Dr. Obenchain knew dentistry was her calling as young as 6th grade. After completing her coursework a year ahead of schedule at Bowling Green State University, she transferred directly into her doctorate program in 1993. Dr. Julie received her Doctorate in Dentistry from Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry in Cleveland OH in 1997. After graduation, she completed a one year residency at the Dayton VA Medical Center before going into practice.
In 2004, Dr. Julie sold her practice in Ohio and relocated her family to South Carolina. A mother of three wonderful children and breast cancer survivor, Dr. Julie is passionate about practicing dentistry in the safest and most biologically-responsible way by eliminating mercury, BPA, and other toxic materials from her practice. She is also devoted to helping patients undergoing cancer treatment preserve and protect their oral health.
Dr. Julie A. Obenchain, DDS is a proud member of the American Dental Association, South Carolina Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Give Kids A Smile program.
Dr. Laura Jean Varadi is a South Carolina native who grew up on the Isle of Palms. After attending Wando High School, Dr. Varadi received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Carolina where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she knew she wanted to pursue a career serving people directly through dentistry.
Dr. Varadi completed her dental education at the Medical University of South Carolina. She was very active during her time in dental school where she was the President of the American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD), a volunteer at the North Charleston Outreach dental clinic, and a member of Dental Community Fellowship. She served on several dental mission trips during her time in dental school including weeks in Ecuador, Jamaica, and Peru. Dr. Varadi also received AAWD’s Outstanding Female Dentist Award.
After graduating from dental school, Dr. Varadi attended one of the nation’s top Advanced Education in General Dentistry residencies at the University of Florida. Dr. Varadi received additional training in placement of dental implants, oral surgery, and prosthodontics. She completed advanced training with the prestigious Dawson Academy. Through her achievements with her residency program, Dr. Varadi received her Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantology.
When she is not seeing patients, Dr. Varadi enjoys spending time with her Boykin Spaniel, Ellie, going fishing, running, and going to the beach. Dr. Varadi is excited to be providing quality and comprehensive care that every patient deserves. Having grown up in the area, she looks forward to giving back to the community that she has called home.
